Interim Chief Financial Officer

James “Jim” Fortner is Georgia Tech’s Vice President for Finance & Planning and the Institute’s Interim Chief Financial Officer. In this role, he has oversight of the financial and budget activities for the Institute. Reporting to Jim are the offices of Budget & Planning; Bursar & Treasury Services; Controller; Grants & Contracts; Institute Finance Support; Institutional Research & Planning, Procurement & Business Services, and the Georgia Tech Research Corporation (GTRC)/ Georgia Tech Applied Research Corporation (GTARC).

Jim has over 30 years of experience in university financial and accounting administration, including over 20 years focused on grants management administration. A metro-Atlanta native and life-long resident, Jim has been with Georgia Tech since 1997 and previously worked at Emory University. Jim holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Georgia State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Kennesaw State University. He is also a Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA).

JENNIFER BENTSON HUBERT

Jennifer Bentson Hubert is the Associate Vice President for Finance & Planning. In her position, Jennifer assists with the coordination and oversight of all Finance & Planning departments, with a particular focus on integrating longer-term planning, strategic resource management, and analytic support for decision-making. Jennifer also works closely with our Office of Information Technology to optimize Georgia Tech’s financial systems and streamline the processes that the systems support, and helps to lead the capital planning function and processes at Georgia Tech.

Jennifer worked with over 50 higher education institutions and other non-profit organizations as a both a consultant and an employee before coming to Georgia Tech in 2015. She holds a Bachelor of Science in International Trade & Finance from Louisiana State University as well as a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

AMY HERRON

Chief Accounting Officer

Amy Herron is the Institute Controller and serves as the Chief Accounting Officer for the Institute, representing Georgia Tech within the University System of Georgia. In this position, Amy manages financial accounting and reporting, financial systems, internal controls, tax compliance, and financial compliance with an emphasis on continuous improvement in the quality and effectiveness of related processes and systems. 

Amy has over 25 years of experience in accounting and financial reporting. She has helped Georgia Tech receive the Award of Distinction for Excellent Financial Reporting from the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts eight times since 2014. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Alabama and a Master of Accountancy from the University of Tennessee. Amy also is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with the State of Georgia.

AJAY PATEL

Ajay Patel is the Executive Director of Procurement & Business Services at Georgia Tech. In this position, Ajay directs all activities of Business Services, to include Risk Management, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Logistics, and Property Control. During his career, Ajay has led transformation of teams to a strategic focus through automation of tactical operations, implementation of new technology solutions, and personnel reorganization, while updating policy and procedure to complement this transformation. 

He has over 20 years of direct and indirect procurement experience sourcing a variety of commodities in various industries including higher education, automotive, utilities, apparel, textiles and consumer goods and packaging.  Ajay holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin. In addition to this, he is a Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM).

Institute Budget Planning & Administration

Jamie Fernandes is the Executive Director for the Institute Budget Planning & Administration office. In her position, Jamie provides executive level direction to the preparation, monitoring, and administration of annual Institute budgets, and is currently leading the Institute in a major strategic initiative to transform the budget model and associated processes. Within the University System of Georgia, Jamie has presented in Budget Conferences, was a chair for the Budget Issues Committee, and participated in both the Executive Leadership Institute and the Accelerated Leadership Academy. At Georgia Tech Jamie participated in the Leading Women@Tech program.  

Jamie has nearly 20 years of experience and has been a part of financial teams for three Georgia universities before Georgia Tech. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (ABJ) in Public Relations and a Political Science minor, as well as a Master of Public Administration at the University of Georgia.

Interim Senior Director - IRP

JASON WANG

Institutional Research & Planning

Dr. Jason L. Wang serves as the Interim Senior Director for the Office of Institutional Research and Planning (IRP). He leads the IRP team in its efforts to provide accurate research, analysis, reporting, and decision support for Georgia Tech. His mission is to ensure the ethical and responsible management of data within IRP and to promote data literacy across Georgia Tech. Jason first started in IRP as a graduate assistant over five years ago and has since become an active IR professional, delivering presentations at state, regional, and national IR conferences and contributing to a book on data strategies in colleges and universities.

Jason also teaches two engineering mechanics courses at Georgia Tech for the Honors Program and has taught for the Georgia Tech Oxford study abroad program. Jason earned his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Georgia Tech.

 

Executive Director, Grants and Contracts

JOSH ROSENBERG

Grants and Contracts

Josh Rosenberg is the Executive Director of Grants and Contracts. In this position, Josh provides leadership, strategic planning, and organizational direction to the Grants & Contracts office comprised of project accounting, cost accounting, compliance, grants systems management, Board of Regents sponsored operations. These units collectively provide for the post-award financial management of sponsored funds awarded to the Institute.  

Josh has over 20 years of experience, with over 18 years in higher education at institutions including Northwestern University, Georgia State University and Emory University. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, concentrating in Marketing from Emory University and a Master of Business Administration, concentrating in Finance, Accounting, & Economics from University of Chicago. Josh is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).

Jim Pierce is the Executive Director of Bursar & Treasury Services at Georgia Tech. In this role, Jim has oversight in non-sponsored accounts receivable, student financial aid accounting cash management programs, investments, endowments, and debt management for the Institute and selected affiliated organizations. In addition to this, Jim served as the interim Chief Financial Officer for Georgia Tech Athletics for half a year.  

Jim has nearly 34 years of experience, with 20 years at Georgia Tech, seven years as the Assistant Treasurer for Crawford & Company, as well as over seven years with Wachovia Bank’s Director of the Capital Markets Audit Division and the Risk Manager for foreign exchange/derivatives portfolios. A Georgia Tech graduate himself, Jim holds a bachelor’s in management from Georgia Tech as well as a master's in business administration from Wake Forest University. Jim is also an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

General Manager, GTRC/GTARC

ROBERT FOY

Robert Foy is the Executive Director of Business Operations and General Manager for Georgia Tech's two research corporations, the Georgia Tech Research Corporation (GTRC) and the Georgia Tech Applied Research Corporation (GTARC). In this role, Robert works with the Boards of Trustees of each corporation, as well as campus and external stakeholders to steward the financial management of Georgia Tech's research enterprise. Previously, Robert served as the Senior Director of the Institute Finance Support team within Finance & Planning.  

Robert has nearly 40 years of experience, with over 30 years direct experience in higher education finance and administration and 8 years of experience with a global accounting/consulting firm serving a strong base of higher education clientele. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Berry College and an MBA from Georgia State University. Robert also has an honorary membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society for contributions to dental education.
